Seven corpses discovered in Rivers pit

Abuja - The troubled Rivers State community of Obibi has been left reeling following the discovery of seven dead bodies, Naij has reported.

The corpses, which were found in a pit in the area, are suspected to be connected to a fresh wave of violence that has plagued the community in recent times.

“There is a pit along Obibi where we saw the dead bodies. They are all male and we have reported to the community leaders. There have been heavy gun shooting since last weekend.

“We don’t know if it was the recent shooting that caused the death of the men. We want the police to come and see things for themselves,” the source informed reporters.

Preliminary investigations have since revealed that the victims may have been killed during a shootout between rival cults in the community last week.

Furthermore, suspicions have come to the fore that the deaths may have resulted from a political rivalry, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refused to release results from the recent rerun elections in the state.

Police PR Officer Ahmad Muhammad has since stated that officials have not yet received any new information on the matter.
